Trigeneration – is the production of useful energy all year round.
Combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) systems, also called trigeneration systems, are a mixture of combined plants and absorption chillers.
Jenbacher’s INNIO gas engines provide an excellent solution for air conditioning and/or refrigeration. The combination equipment provides high performance and low emissions. Absorption chillers provide an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional refrigeration systems with steam-compression chillers. The combination of the two elements ensures excellent fuel efficiency and a reduction in overall air emissions.
Combining a CHP unit with an absorption refrigeration system makes it possible to use the CHP unit more efficiently. After all, surplus heat is used for cooling when there is no need for heating in summer. The hot water from cooling the plant serves as the motive energy for the absorption chiller. And the engine exhaust gases are used to generate steam, which becomes the energy source for the double-acting steam cooler. As a result, up to 80% of the CHP unit’s heat output can be used for cooling water.
Efficiency. Compared to conventional refrigeration technology, absorption systems for air conditioning are far more efficient and produce far fewer NOx emissions. While dealing with heat, trigeneration uses relatively inexpensive ‘surplus energy’
Reduced operating costs and life cycle costs. The electricity produced can be fed into the public grid or used to cover the plant’s own needs. During the cold season, heat can be used to cover heating needs.
Reliable and easy to operate. The simple, high-quality design of the ABCP without moving parts ensures low maintenance costs and long overhaul intervals.
Environment. Using water as a refrigerant eliminates the need for ozone-depleting substances.
